The Short-eared Owl is a rare, passage visitor to Ladakh.
It can be spotted in open marshy areas and meadows up to 4350 m, where it hunts small mammals.
It has tufts of feathers resembling mammals’ ears, which can be difficult to see, and is especially active around dawn and dusk.
