One of the longest migratory birds in the world. It travels 30,000 km from sub-Saharan Africa to its Arctic breeding grounds. It is a rare passage migrant to Ladakh, first recorded in Nubra in 2020.
It can be spotted open dry grassy or sandy slopes and plains up to 4600 m. The sexes look different.
